The Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers (Militia) deployed to the Black Mountains area of the Brecon Beacons National Park to conduct Ex MILITIA STRIKE, a patrol of the area interspersed with Military Skills stands on Saturday 12 June, followed by Command Tasks and Assault Course on Sunday 13 June 2021.
Starting at the Black Mountain Car Park they moved up past the Grwyne Fawr Reservoir before moving onto the high ridgeline and to the Pont Cadwgan Car Park. It was hard going wearing belt order, carrying a heavy bergen and weapons especially in and around Waun Fach and Pen y Gadair Fawr areas, all done on a particular warm and sunny day. Overall a great effort by all proving their fitness hasn’t waned too much during Lockdown.
Sunday started with a stretching session to ease the tightness from Saturday before the Command Task and Assault Course ending with the recovery of an artillery piece.
Running in the background of the patrol’s training was the final push to complete the 3 troop shelters started in April so that they could be handed over to the Army Cadets in Wales aiding their return to training, several VIPs attended the Hand Over/Take Over.
